Photo Sessions

Life moves fast for all of us, and I want to help you remember every season and every event — whether it’s big like a wedding (or a new baby!) or small like baking cookies in the kitchen with your kids at Christmas time. Let’s get those special moments documented, however and whenever you want them! Photo sessions can be a lot of things, but generally fall under three categories (scroll to find details). If you don’t see something that matches an idea you have, hit the inquiry button at the top of the page and let’s chat about it. I’m all about anything fun, different, and original that you might be thinking of!

Holiday Nostalgia Sessions

November + December 2024

A nostalgia session is an in-home session that highlights your holiday traditions and who you are as a family. Essentially, this is just you and your family enjoying the holiday -- whatever that looks like for you-- and I show up with my camera and document it. There’s no need to buy or stage anything... these sessions are about YOU and that’s why they will be nostalgic -- because these memories will be real.

The session will be anywhere from 60-90 minutes -- I want to spend a substantial amount of time with you and your family so I can really capture something real and authentic! This will give everyone time to feel comfortable and ready to be themselves so we can have FUN during the session! It’s not going to feel like a photoshoot, but rather a relaxed activity where there happens to be someone taking photos.

Think about your favorite family traditions (or even prized decorations/objects that remind you of the holidays) -- whatever that looks like for you is what I want to capture! I will document as you put up your favorite decorations or decorate the tree; light your menorah or kinara (or any tradition from any culture or religion that you practice); bake your favorite cookies; play games or read books; drink hot cocoa; write letters to Santa; hang stockings; wrap presents; snuggle on the couch; or perform a sugar cookie-fueled, broadway-worthy rendition of “Let it Go!” in the living room.

I want to capture whatever feels like YOU.

Have you ever left a photo session and thought.. “I don’t even want to see those photos. I look awkward and I didn’t feel my best and there’s no way that turned out well.”

This is not an uncommon occurrence. I felt that way for every photoshoot when I was younger— school photos, family photos, senior photos. I left the session thinking “thank god that’s over.” And you know what? Those pictures were bad. They weren’t technically bad, the lighting was great and the backdrops—(ok the backdrops were ugly but we’ve evolved as a society since then) but because I was uncomfortable the whole time, my photos just did not hit the way they should have. When I look at them (still on my parents wall, lol) I don’t think “look how cute high school Karly was.” Instead I think about how awkward I felt leaning against a tree or how twisted my body felt in the pose they put me in or how hot and bright the studio lights were in my face. When I became a photographer, I remained hyper aware of this fact and have always tried my hardest to help my clients realize that they are not models, and the last thing I want anyone to do is be uncomfortable when I’m taking their photograph. My goal is for you to have just as much fun during the session as you do looking at the photos a few weeks later. Your photos won’t be good because we set the scene and click all the right buttons and pose at all the right angles— they will be good because they will look and feel like you and you’ll remember how happy you felt at that particular point in time. So let’s get real, and raw, and have some real, honest fun while doing it.

Curious what a full session looks like?

“Unreal - truly I can not say enough good things about Karly and her work. She seamlessly was able to work the room and got all the photos I didn't even know I needed or wanted. She is so fun and easy to work with and the turn around time on the photos was amazing. She is easily the best photographer I have ever worked with and will continue working with her for years to come!”

“Karly did an excellent job with our engagement photos. She was extremely responsive, did a great job helping us feel comfortable during the photo shoot itself, and of course most importantly, her photos are absolutely gorgeous.”

“so thankful for Karly’s amazing design eye. she sees beauty in the ordinary, and her style is the best mix of old and new; the photos she took of me and my kids had a nostalgic feeling to them! i also appreciated her energy during the session, it put us all in a chill vibe.”

“I don’t know that I can thank Karly at Red Herron Art enough for the amazing photos that she has provided us. I worked with Karly for 2 different projects and both experiences were excellent.

First, Karly helped capture my proposal to my wife and (fast forward a couple of years) also did our first family photo shoot with our daughter.

Karly was very easy to work with and got photos back to us in a timely manner on both occasions.

I would encourage anyone thinking of getting some professional photos done to work with Karly!”

I want to help you remember today, forever.

Let’s get started on your story.
