Farm Wedding at Peacock Road Family Farm in Lansing, Michigan - Allie + Charlie

An Excellent Wedding Venue in Mid Michigan

Allie and Charlie live in Germany, and got married at the height of the covid-19 pandemic. Because of restrictions, so many of their family and friends didn’t get to celebrate their wedding with them, so it was inevitable that an American celebration was in order! They said their vows again at Peacock Road Family Farm in Laingsburg, Michigan in a small ceremony at the ampitheater on the farm, in front of family and friends.

Before I get into Allie and Charlie’s wedding, I want to talk about the venue for a minute because it’s a really special place that has so much to offer and is a GREAT place to get married if you’re looking for something a little different. Peacock Road Family Farm is a fantastic venue where you can celebrate your special day in a laid back environment with so much to do. It’s an actual farm that offers a great blend of rustic charm and romantic beauty, making it an ideal venue for weddings and events. When you arrive at Peacock Road Family Farm, you’re immediately met by an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped in to a different time in history. The farm's vast grounds are alive with vibrant wildflowers and lush greenery, which provide an ideal backdrop for outdoor ceremonies, while the historic red barn gives a timeless allure, serving as on of the setting for receptions and gatherings.

There’s several ceremony sites on the property that are equally beautiful and both are excellent choices depending on your needs. Couples can exchange their vows in the serene beauty of the farm’s rolling pastures, or beneath the shade of the towering oak trees. The Peacock Road Family Farm team works tirelessly to personalize each ceremony site and ensure that it reflects the love story of each unique couple. For receptions, the farm's meticulously restored barn provides a warm and inviting space for guests to enjoy festivities (and provides respite from the sun on a hot Michigan summer day!). The barn's rich wood interiors, adorned with twinkling lights and elegant drapery, combine rustic charm with refined elegance, creating an atmosphere that is somehow both intimate and grand. From intimate gatherings to lavish celebrations, the barn offers a versatile canvas for couples to bring their vision to life.

But the real gem, beyond its enchanting spaces, is the friendly, helpful and hardworking team that wants to make each couple’s day run smoothly and feel special. The farm is equipped with a dedicated team of event specialists who are committed to curating seamless and unforgettable experiences. From event coordination and decor setup to catering (don’t even get me started on the pulled pork and mac and cheese), the farm's staff ensures that every detail is meticulously arranged, allowing guests to bask in the joy of the occasion and be present without worrying about logistics.

TLDR; the event staff, the quaint charm and the versatile nature of the space make it an exceptional venue that anyone would be excited to have on their wedding day!

Small Wedding Ceremony at the Ampitheater

Allie and Charlie got married in the ampitheater on the farm, which is a gorgeous space in an enclosure of trees that makes the space feel separated from the rest of the farm. It’s quiet, and beautiful, and has a woodsy charm. Prior to the ceremony, Allie got ready with her sister and a friend inside the schoolhouse right behind the ampitheater. The schoolhouse is like a tiny museum and looks straight out of the 1800s— there are artifacts all throughout, including an old piano, upholstered chairs, and old vanity, and a chalkboard. It’s incredibly charming. I felt a bit like I was supposed to be practicing my cursive on a small chalkboard at a desk. The vanity made such a great photo opportunity and Allie looked so gorgeous.

When it was time for the ceremony, Allie met Charlie right outside the schoolhouse and they walked to the venue together. And here’s what I loved so much about this couple and about this wedding— they were so present and so into the experience of the day. No one was worried about a “first look” or where to stand or if it was ok to see each other yet or not— they just proceeded how they would normally, with no made up timeline in their head of how they thought things should go. And when you spend your wedding day like that, you will be so happy, because you’ll live each moment intensely, without expectation, and that is when you are free. I want everyone to experience their wedding day like that. (More on my approach here). I don’t think people really understand the stress you put on yourself and on the day when you expect too much or have the pictures in your head already— that can only lead to stress and disappointment, and I don’t think anyone can experience their wedding day authentically when that’s happening inside their head. Allie and Charlie should write a guide on how to happily float through the day and focus only on what matters.

When they entered the ceremony, everyone was in place except for them— and then they walked down the aisle together while everyone smiled and cheered them on. They looked so happy walking in and I loooved that they changed it up and walked in together rather than the standard parents walking each party down the aisle. Their parents were such a large active part of their ceremony in other ways, they truly bucked tradition and made it their way and it was so special and meaningful.

Reception in the restored barn

After the wedding, drinks were served at the outdoor bar and patio area. The patio is really nice but the best part are the cats that roam around the property, (and help out the bartenders from time to time). It was an extremely hot day, and although the guests were provided with the cutest little fans to fan themselves during the day, everyone was happy to retreat to the shade of the barn for dinner and a special presentation from Allie and Charlie, who showed everyone pictures from their home and travels abroad.

Please enjoy the pictures below, and note the vast array of photo opps this venue has to offer! If you have any questions about this venue or are ready to book me for your small wedding, or any other kind of session, make an inquiry today!
